Down and Down Alternative Comforters

Fill Type
Comforters are available in many types of fills, from a luxurious Siberian White Goose Down to the Luxury Down Alternative, PrimaLoft. While we always recommend the the real thing, Down and Feathers, if allergies are a concern to you, rest assured knowing that all our products are Hypoallergenic. Of course, you can always just pick a Down Alternative, such as PrimaLoft, if you're really concerned.

Fill Power
Fill Power is a measure of the space, in cubic inches, 1 ounce of down will occupy at maximum loft. So, in simple terms, the higher the fill power, the lighter, fluttier, and more insulating the comforter will be. We suggest a fill power between 500 - 650 to evenly heat the body, but provide great breathability.

Fill Weight
Down is measured in ounches, so a higher ounce weight means a heavier comforter. Heavy doesn't necessarily mean hot. If a comforter has a high fill weight, but a low fill power, it will feel heavy without being too warm. Your climate and personal preference come into play here, so take those into account when purchasing.

Construction
If a comforter's fill shifts it can create empty pockets with little or no warmth. That's where the comforter construction becomes important.
Baffle Box Construction uses sewn-in cloth "walls" to keep fill in place.
Sewn-Through Box Construction is created by sewing horizontal and vertical stitches into the top and bottom layers of a comforter. This creates individual compartments which prevent fill from clumping.
Channel Construction is similar to Sewn-Through Box Construction in that horizontal or vertical columns are sewn into the fabric to create compartments which prevent the fill from shifting.
A Gusset is a construction technique that creates outer side walls to secure a comforter's top and bottom layers together. This allows for it to appear more lofty and full.

Thread Count
A comforter's thread count, or the number of threads woven per square inch, indicates its quality, durability and feel. A higher thread count means it has a tighter weave, usually creating a smoother, more luxurious touch. A higher thread count can also help keep fill from poking through and dirt out.

Pillows

Firmness
An appropriately firm pillow can create the perfect night's sleep while reducing neck, back and shoulder pain. Pillows, however, don't last forever. As a rule of thumb, fold your pillow in half down the middle and let go - if it doesn't immediately spring back, it's time for a new one.
Back Sleepers should look for a medium firmness to achieve the ideal position for your neck and head.
Side Sleepers will often want to get a firm pillow to provide the right support for your head, neck, and shoulders.
Stomach Sleepers will want to try a soft pillow to make sure your head is at a comfortable angle.

Fill Type
Pillows can be construction with a variety of fills, the most common are Down or Synthetic. A Natural Fill, like White Goose Down, is typically lightweight and consists of a combination of Down and Feathers. If you suffer from allergies, though, you may want to consider a Synthetic fill such as PrimaLoft.

Thread Count
A pillow's thread count, or the number of threads woven per square inch, indicates its quality, durability and feel. A higher thread count means it has a tighter weave, usually creating a smoother, more luxurious touch. A higher thread count can also help keep fill from poking through and dirt out.

Mattress Pads
Mattress Pads are the perfect way to help preserve the life of your mattress and add a little extra comfort. They are the most effective when you combine them with a mattress protector.

Fill Type
Mattress pads are typically made from natural materials, such as White Goose Feathers & Down, however synthetics can also be used.

Construction
Most mattress pads are constructed with a quilted top layer which helps prevent the fill from shifting. Gusseted pads with side walls provide extra support and help the pad maintain its shape.

Depth
Mattress pads are offered in depths from 14" to 24" to fit most of today's mattresses. Make sure to measure the depth of your mattress to ensure the pad will wrap all the way around.

Featherbeds & Fiberbeds

Fill Type
Featherbeds, just like comforters and pillows, come in natural and synthetic fills.

Thread Count
A featherbed's thread count, or the number of threads woven per square inch, indicates its quality, durability and feel. A higher thread count means it has a tighter weave, usually creating a smoother, more luxurious touch. A higher thread count can also help keep fill from poking through and dirt out.
