Making the Perfect Bed
For those of you looking to match what you may have slept on at a hotel, use our Hotel Search tool, or continue below; but keep in mind that bedding products tend to soften a little over time due to usage. So something you slept on at a hotel may be a little softer than a brand-new item.

Care for Down Bedding

In the Hospitality environment, most of the products that Down Lite offers are machine washable and dryable.

Both natural filled and synthetic (down alternative) filled bedding products are able to be laundered; as long as the fabric ticking is washable, and the product is not too large for the washing machinery.

We typically recommend that all of our products be spot treated first. Down and feather filled bedding may be dry cleaned, but PrimaLoft – Luxury Down Alternative filled products should not be dry cleaned.

Down Lite’s feather beds and fiber beds can be very bulky for even a commercial laundry. These items most often will need to be spot treated or dry cleaned only.

Natural filled comforters, blankets, and pillows should be washed in cold to medium temperatures, on a gentle cycle, using a very mild detergent and no bleach. As natural fill absorbs moisture, it is not uncommon that a down filled item comes out of washer/extractor weighing twice as much as it did before it was washed. These products should be dried very thoroughly, on low heat (less than 120 degrees, F). Drying may take several hours, depending on machine capacity, etc.

Synthetic filled comforters, blankets, pillows, and mattress toppers may also be washed in cold to medium temperatures, using a mild detergent. In many commercial washer/extractors, we suggest stuffing the washer very fully to avoid the mechanical action of the machine from ‘beating up’ blown polyester fibers, which may cause clumping or roping of the fibers. Drying times may be shorter with polyester filled products; however, they should still be dried on a low heat setting.

Drying items such as mattress toppers may require a laundry attendant to flip over the products periodically while being dried, so that all of the surface areas of the products are exposed to the heat, and moisture is not trapped inside the folded-over portion of these filled bedding products.

We also recommend that products be ‘fluffed’ regularly by guest room attendants. Natural filled products require air flow for loft, and simply fluffing up the products regularly, will aid in restoring loft.

The best way to extend the lives of natural or synthetic filled bedding products is by using a protector or cover of some sort. Placing the comforter inside a duvet cover, and/or putting a pillow protector on sleep pillows will dramatically increase the lives of these products.

Down Lite sews in care instructions to all of our products.
